Just a perfect day.....

I had just the best day - flew to Paris to get a couple of fingers straightened (damn this Dupytrens disease) landed to warmth 23 degC clear blue sky Man this is better than Aberdeen! Took the Metro to the restaurant where an old friend Frank from Valencia is working as a chef had a fabulous meal sitting at a sidewalk table in the sun, then left and strolled down towards Bastille Metro and entered MAN HEAVEN, first there's a little shop with a custom chopper in the window next to a 70's Triumph Bonneville and a BSA Lightening all for sale, then I realised almost every shop was selling bikes, everything from Honda through Harley to Triumph. It took me nearly an hour to visit them all then just when I'd finished, here's a row of secondhand camera shops full of black anodised shiny lenses and camera bodies and all the time there's bikes cruising up and down the boulevard, pretty pillion passengers flashing brown legs in the sun.....

Finally made it to Place D'Italie, still a bit early so I sat in front of the fountain in the sun chilled out read a classic bike magazine and joined in with the people-watching, drank a coffee that didn't taste like dishwater and just wished the day could last forever. But it didn't. And I got home and realised I'd been so excited I forgot to take and photos except these two, so you'll have to imagine the rest. Sorry.

Your perfect day would have made our day more perfect with some "leg" Candy. I'm dreaming of some brown legs in the sun. Being a former camera collector I would have stopped into every camera shop as well. What, you didn't buy anything ?

did you stay over, or was this just a one day trip ?

Hope you managed to straighten your fingers.

  2. Bobskoot, unfortunately it was just a one day trip; the fingers aren't perfect but at least I can reach the brake and clutch levers now, which is always a bonus! Test drove a few cameras, quite fancy the new Sony NEX5 but probably because its really small and shiny. I recently sold my old cameras on e-bay so I'm looking for a good DSLR.

I looked into the NEX5 but too many bad vibes about the interface. wait for the NEX7 coming out shortly. I just purchased a T2i, great reviews and I also have a Canon G10. My Nikon D80 was getting a bit old. I prefer Nikon but all the new models are just coming out. If you can wait and see about the new D7000 rumoured to be announced next week. I couldn't wait because I needed a camera for my impending trip and all Nikon's older models are due for upgrade as they have been out for a while.

The new Canon 60D has just been announced, or the new G12 rumoured to be out within the month

I have no problems spending YOUR hard earned money. Just send some over and I will send you back a camera of my choice.

  4. Bobskoot, you're a real pal. I want a small camera like a compact that has interchangeable lens, produces pictures of fantastic quality without me knowing anything about photography; oh and if it makes attractive women throw themselves at my feet that would be a nice bonus. How much shall I send?

so far the NEX7 holds some promise. Small, interchangeable lenses BUT, NEX5 has bad battery life, overheats when taking longer videos, etc. SO have to wait for next generation.

the only small camera would be the Panasonic Lumix GF1 4/3rds sensor. Set on full auto and even an idiot can take fabulous photos. (I don't think I mean YOU)

BUT hold on, there is a rumour that Nikon is bringing out their EVIL camera soon. (EVIL = Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens), sort of like NEX5 or GF1 but who knows.

Better yet, just send airfare and we will both go together to all the camera shops

  6. Les Grenouilles always seem to view bikes and bikers as chic in a way that we Brits don't. Perhaps it's because they didn't grow up encasing themselves in black waxed cotton!
